About Me

My name is Jessica Velasco.  I am a former college admissions professional that worked in higher education.  My last position was the Director of Admissions at a university in the Seattle area.  After relocating to the San Francisco Bay Area for my husband's new job, I decided I did not want to return to the college setting.  Instead, I wanted to write as an Educational Consultant and help students and their parents through the college admission process!

I grew up in Southern California in the city of Fontana.  After some moving around in college, like so many college students do, I settled at San Jose State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology.  Since graduation, I have worked at a number of colleges (public and private).  My passion has become helping students through the college admission process.  When I worked for colleges, I was not able to guide students in the way I wanted because I had to sell that particular college.  Now, I have the freedom to really help students through the process.

While I was on the college side, I worked as an Admissions Counselor, Assistant Director of Admission and lastly as the Director of Admission.  I was very involved in professional organizations dedicated to college admissions and even received an award from my regional association as a rising star in the profession.  During my decade of working in higher education, I have come to know many college admissions professionals across the country.  In addition, I have visited many college campuses.  I have a wealth of knowledge about college admission and I'm excited to share my knowledge with you!
